SURF'S UP!
Friday, June 29, 2007 — Attention citizens! Surfboard shaper Kainoa Kalepa made a big announcement today!
He has invited all of Millsberry to surf the waves at Okalani Island, a tropical destination not too far from here.
"I made a point to visit Millsberry because I'd heard rumors of an island with great waves nearby," explained Kainoa. "No one knows about it except for hardcore surfers. It's not on any map. I checked it out and knew I had to tell you guys about it. The waves are amazing!"
Kainoa has scouted out four great spots on Okalani for citizens to learn the art of surfing. He'll teach you cool moves as he sees you improve. Do you think you can pull off a Hang Ten? Will you be able to masterfully surf the first three locations before tackling the most difficult, Radical Reef? You'll just have to take up Kai's challenge to find out!
So how do you get there? Just go to the arcade or head downtown as if you were going to Sylvane Lake, and Kainoa will whisk you over to the island. Once you're there, he'll provide you with surfboards that he shaped, and you'll be all ready to rip it up in style!
"It's the perfect place for people just learning to surf, or for pros to practice their gnarly moves," Kai added. "It's beautiful and quiet year-round. I may not make it around the world like I'd planned...I love it here!"
Citizens are extremely excited, and Kai's enthusiasm is contagious. At the end of his announcement, he flashed the sign for "hang loose," with his thumb and pinkie pointing outward, and received cheers.
What a great surprise for us this summer. See you at the island!
