READY TO GROW SOME PIZZA?

Thursday, September 24, 2009 — For the past few days, the citizens of Millsberry have been walking around town in overalls and bandanas.

Will Wexley, dressed in a plaid shirt and straw hat, shed light on the situation, noting, "Everyone is just so eager to start farming at Grow Good Farms! We'll be learning how to maintain crops, watch them grow, and harvest them — and we'll be helping others in the process. If you make a plain pizza, General Mills will donate $0.15 to Feeding America, an organization that delivers groceries to food banks across America... with the help of people just like you!

"Each topping you add to your pizza will increase the donation by $.05 — so a banana pizza will mean $.20, a banana-basil pizza will mean $.25, etc. The more crops you grow, the more pizzas you can make — and the more money will get donated. General Mills will donate up to $6,250 each month!"

That's right. From now until May 31st, 2010, Grow Good Farms is officially open to help others, and there's a plot of land waiting just for you!

Farm founder Giovanna Antonia de Luca has been working hard to make sure there are tons of seeds to sow (plant), and plenty of plots ready for Millsberry's newest farmers!

Giovanna also agreed to take a break from her fieldwork to talk to The Gazette, to offer readers a run-down on how this fantastic enterprise began.

She explained, "It started as a dream when I was still living in Italy — and wanting to do something to bring together my two passions: growing food, and helping others. Now, with Grow Good Farms, that dream has become a reality! The more farmers we have making pizzas full of tasty toppings, the more money General Mills will donate to Feeding America, up to $6,250 each month. Those pizzas will really add up fast!"

Sounds like the perfect plan: Have fun farming, and help those in need! That's definitely motivation to start your farm today! And with fun and easy, step-by-step instructions, you'll be a farming-pro in no time.

In fact, with this news in hand, we lined up to start our farm — and to begin the pizza-making process — right away! We urge you to do the same!
