THE LATEST BUZZ

Thursday, October 8, 2009 — It was quite a sight: kids crowded around Mrs. Seashore, a Millsberry schoolteacher. Seashore was standing in front of the Academy — down the street from the Grocery Store — stuck to the sidewalk! The students were trying to help, but one by one, they were getting stuck too. It was just about then that everyone finally noticed the strong, sweet smell of... honey!

Fortunately, with a good bit of wiggling, the crowd managed to get free from the super-sticky honey puddle. When they finally looked up, they stared in awe at the grand, glass-walled greenhouse towering before them. With a Honey Nut Cheerios® cereal flag waving from the top of the building, this could only mean one thing: that Buzz the Bee had moved to town — bringing with him prizes, flowers, plants, and more!

In fact, we at the Gazette had the honor of getting some quality face-time with Millsberry's newest resident — Buzz the Bee.

Buzz confirmed his arrival in town, noting that he built the beautiful Honey Nut Cheerios® Greenhouse with the help of Millsberry's botanist, Mr. Combee. A botanist is a scientist who studies plants and flowers — and this botanist is also new to town. Buzz explained that Mr. Combee had had his eye on Millsberry for many years because of its charm...and that perfect plot of land next to the Academy! Buzz also noted that he's going to need lots of help maintaining his greenhouse...hopefully with assistance from of all of you! For instance, "Buzzing for Water" is a fun game that will help supply the hive with the water it needs to survive. High-scorers will win Millsbucks and fitness points!

You can also help Buzz by collecting pollen and fertilizing flowers, growing plants, collecting flowers, and finding bugs! Best of all: for every day you visit, you'll get a secret new prize, just for buzzing by.

Mrs. Seashore has known about the new plans for a while now, but she managed to keep them a secret. She told us, "I think it's great that students will now have another space to learn in. It's truly a beautiful greenhouse, full of treasures and surprises — including the honey — though I can't seem to get it off my shoes!"

The students are also super eager to start exploring the sparkling new structure. One student told us she hoped there would be buttercups and sunflowers. Another said he hoped they'd have earthworms and butterflies — lucky for them, all of those things can be found in the greenhouse!

In sum: There's no telling what Buzz's new greenhouse holds, so you'll have to step into the big green gem to find out what's in store for you!
