July 4th Safety Tips
- Let an adult professional handle the fireworks. You should never try to touch or light a firework yourself. Instead, why not go to see a professional fireworks show?
- Don't stand too close to people who are lighting fireworks or holding sparklers. You could get injured if something goes wrong!
- If your clothing catches fire, lie down on the ground, cover your face with your hands, and roll back and forth to smother the flames.
- If your eye gets injured in a fireworks explosion, do not rub it or try to rinse it out. Have your parents take you to the emergency room right away.
- Never try to make your own fireworks.
- If you have a pet, keep it indoors and away from the fireworks. Pets can be frightened by the sound of fireworks, and they can even be injured by the sparks and explosions from fireworks.
- If you're visiting a pool, lake, or beach for the Fourth of July, always make sure that there is a lifeguard on duty before you go swimming. Also, always have a buddy with you in the water, and make sure that your parents can see you at all times.
- Be sure to put on plenty of sunscreen if you.re going to be outside for most of the day, and remember to reapply, especially after swimming.
- Remember to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and other fluids. The summer heat can dehydrate you quicker than you think, especially if you are active.
